Matt lays out chicken plans

Friday, 10 August 2012

A YOUNG entrepreneur is taking his business to the next level as he plans a grand launch this weekend. Matt Taylor, 18, from Dinnaton, has been running Taylor Made Poultry from his home for four years. Having completed his A-levels at Ivybridge Community College he is now focusing on the company full time. Taylor Made Poultry supply chicks to domestic and small commercial customers. It also gives tips on how to get started and look after and breed chickens and hens. Matt keeps free range chickens and hens at home or on an allotment and has recently rented an area and run at Countryman’s choice by Endsleigh Garden and Leisure at Ivybridge, where he will promote the business more fully from tomorrow. At the new location, Matt will be offering chicken housing, food, bedding, feeders, drinkers, health products and books. Matt is also branching out as he aims to keep alpacas. He has already won a local young businessman of the year award and he made the second round of the BBC’s Junior Apprentice. Matt also gave eggs to old Priory Junior School, Plympton, last summer after their chicken coop was smashed by vandals. No chickens were harmed but the all the eggs bar one were smashed in the attack. He said at the time: ‘It seems like a really mindless thing to do to smash up a chicken coop.’
