Chicken House Plans – Downloading the Right Schematics

There are an abundance of high quality chicken house plans available over the internet if you know where to look. some are digital reproductions of old hardcopy schematics, whilst others are completely original. This article explains the differences between different chicken houses, and directs you to the next step in this very practical DIY project.

There are 3 major styles of chicken coop:

1) the a-frame coop.
2) the box shaped coop.
3) the hen house style coop.

All 3 designs can differ slightly, depending on what chicken house plans you use. each obviously has advantages and disadvantages, but all 3 can be constructed at home in 1 to 3 days. It’s also important to add that building your own chicken coop is many times less expensive that purchasing pre-made coops, or even pre-fabricated kits.

A-Frame Chicken Coops

This is the simplest style of DIY chicken house. It’s essentially 3 triangles nailed together to create a long prism shape. the structure is covered with chicken wire, and hey presto, you have a chicken coop This design is quite small, and generally only practical for a couple of chickens.

Box-shaped Coops

These are a step up from the a-frame design. They are a lot bigger, will allow you to keep a larger flock, and provide your birds with separate areas for grazing and nesting. They’re particularly practical for narrow spaces, such as between the house and the property fencing.

Traditional Hen House Coops

This is the big one If you’re serious about building a premium, large hen house, this is the style for you. You will be able to keep as many birds as you like, and most high quality plans will show you how to attach a chicken run. there is enough space inside for an egg collecting contraption, and an automatic feeder.
