Eleven private spaces and two community gardens will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. today for the Lawrenceville Garden Tour. The free event starts at the Lawrenceville Organic Community Garden, 4734 Butler St., near the entrance of Allegheny Cemetery, and is hosted by the Lawrenceville Hospitality Association. The Lawrenceville Farmers Market in the Goodwill parking lot on 52nd Street opens at 12:30 p.m. Information: email lawrencevillegardentour@gmail.com.
Verona garden tour
The town of Verona will host a free self-guided walking garden tour from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today. Maps are available at the corner of Allegheny River Boulevard and South Avenue. Participating gardens will be marked with balloons, and refreshments will be offered at various locations.
The Grainery, a grist mill that has been restored by Christine Davis, urban archaeologist, also will be open, and Ms. Davis will be on site to talk about the building.
Chicken coop tour
The second annual Pittsburgh Urban Chicken Coop Tour will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday in the North side and East end neighborhoods.
The tour showcases various styles of chicken coops and breeds, and urban chicken farmers will be on hand to discuss the how-to's of chicken keeping.
Tickets are $10 for adults, free for children, and are available on Sunday at The Quiet Storm, 5430 Penn Ave.; Tazza D'Oro, 1125 N. Highland Ave.; Animal Nature, 7610 Forbes Ave.; Thompson 0.08 Acres, 1240 Resaca place; and Choderwood, 7665 Lock way West.
A guided East end bike tour begins at 9:15 a.m. at Animal Nature. Proceeds go to Grow Pittsburgh. Information: noblechoder@aol.com.
