After deciding that you really want to domesticate chicken, the next step is to create a design for your chicken coop. there are some considerations in creating a design for your coop; these considerations will serve as guide for your plan.
The first thing to consider in designing your coop is too know how many fowl you intended to accommodate. the best design is the one that gives proper space in your chicken. usually a wider space creates a better environment for the chickens. they can produce betters eggs, fast reproductions and a quality chicken meat. having enough and sufficient spaces help prevent diseases and skin allergies of the bird. it also prevents abnormal behavior of the flock.
When making a design you should consider putting sufficient ventilation for the chickens. the design should vary with the climate in your place, when it is hot the coop should have enough windows or opening to let the cool air in and the warm air out. Chickens tends to be irritated and uncomfortable in hot weather, their behavior is affected which lessen their productivity. in cold weather the coop should help maintain the warm surrounding for the chickens. the design should give comfort to the chicken in any change of weather as well as it will give convenience to you when you are cleaning the coop.
Sufficient sunlight should also be a part of the design. Chickens are sunlight loving creature. they grow well in places where there is an abundant sunlight. it gives them energy in laying and hatching eggs. they are more active and more energetic with proper sunlight. if your place has lesser amount of sunlight it will be better to design a coop that has artificial sunlight, putting a light bulb or fluorescent light may substitute sunlight.
The design you choose should have a proper feeder and water holder. Feeding the fowls is not that hard provided you have plan the feeding set up. this means putting the right number of feeders and water holders relatively for the total number of chickens. in this set up you can be sure that each chicken consume the proper feeds necessary for their growth and progress. you are also certain that the amount of feeds you put in the feeders is sufficiently enough for the chicken thus preventing excessive waste of feeds and help lessening food expense.
The final point to consider in designing your coop is your budget for materials. if you are short in money for buying new materials you can always use the resources available in your home. such materials like unused or excess woods, wood box, unused leathers and previous door screen can be used in your coop. when you gathered all the material in your home that you can use the only thing to buy is those parts that you do not have. this can help you budget your money and create a coop of your design. but if you have the sufficient money to spend allocate it properly to create the coop that you desire.
The design of your chicken coop must be for purpose of having an effective, durable and convenient shelter for your fowl. it will be in your benefit to give your flocks a great home.
