Build a Chicken Coop Tips

1. Firstly, the area of your where you will be building will have to be planned. make sure the ground will not flood if it rains and is level.

2. Depending on the length and width that you want the chicken coop to have, place the plywood panels accordingly to make the floor. if you want to build a permanent coop, and you will never move it, then this method is perfectly suitable. Always build your coop depending on the number of chickens you have. Place two by four lumbers around the edges of the floor and screw them to form a frame.

3. Next you will have to screw two by four lumbers all around the coop to form the wall frame. since you will be using chicken wire to build most of the coop so you do not need to frame out the roof.

4. The chicken wire will have to be stapled all the way from the floor boards to the roof. since you are building a permanent coop, you will have to bury one foot of the chicken wire into the ground by digging a twelve-inch trench. This way, burrowing predators like cats, foxes, rabbits, rats and other animals will not be able to enter the coop and feed on your chickens.5. The chicken wire will have to be wrapped and overlapped over the roof so that the outside walls are slightly overlapped by it. To give your chickens a little shade during from the scorching sunlight during the day, you will have to place a large tarp over half the roof by tying it to the chicken wire.

6. You can use the remaining plywood to build a simple open-front nesting box with a fifteen-inch width and layer it with hay. The eggs won’t break once because of the hay. The nesting box can be screwed to the wall frame, two feet off the ground.

7. To give your chickens a place to roost, two by four lumbers can be attached from wall to wall across the coop, two feet off of the ground.

8. Don’t forget to drill one-inch holes around a 5-gallon bucket, a half inch up from the bottom so you can feed your chickens constantly. use a large base like a clay plant base so the bucket can be placed on top and fill the feed into it. The same method can be repeated for the watering bucket, but two holes are more than enough. The buckets should be within reach of the chicken at all times.

Since you wanted to learn how to build your own chicken coop, if you follow the mentioned steps, you will end up building a simple chicken coop within no time.
